Increase your Hifdh ability!
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
What if there were secrets to increase the ability of your memorisation? To increase the amount you memorise? Secret tips guaranteed to work that could be applied to multipy your Hifdh benefits?
The secret ingredient that multipies your blessings
Allah سبحانه وتعالى is the Most Truthful in speech and so, when He promises us something, who is better in fulfulling their promise than Him? Bear this in mind when you read this ayah of the Qur’an, where He says:
وَإِذْ تَأَذَّنَ رَبُّكُم لَئِن شَكَرْتُم لَأَزِيدَنَّكُم وَلَئِن كَفَرْتُم إِنَّ عَذَابِي لَشَدِيدٌ
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.’
[Ibrahim, 14:7]
Allah promises that if we are grateful He will increase our blessings. So if instead of moaning and complaining about our memories and our Hifdh, we thank Him for what we do have, He will increase this for us! Try it out now and see the difference. Everytime you complete some memorisation, whatever the amount even if it’s only one ayah or less, do a sajdat al-shukr (prostration of thankfulness) to Allah for it and feel happy and grateful. And then watch His promise come true.
What Istighfaar can do for you
Our sins are the biggest barrier between us and good deeds, and this includes our Hifdh. We are all human and we make mistakes, but the best of those who make mistakes are those who repent, so we should use constant Istighfaar (seeking Allah’s forgiveness) to put out the fire of our sins. Istighfaar has many other huge benefits too. It opens the doors of rizq (provision, sustenance), Allah says in the Qur’an:
And [saying], “Seek forgiveness of your Lord and repent to Him, [and] He will let you enjoy a good provision for a specified term and give every doer of favor his favor. But if you turn away, then indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a great Day.
[Hud, 11:3]
In another place in the Qur’an, Prophet Nuh (AH) called his people to Istighfaar saying:
And said, ‘Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers. And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.
[Nuh, 71:10-12]
Ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said,
“If anyone constantly seeks pardon (from Allah), Allah will appoint for him a way out of every distress and a relief from every anxiety, and will provide sustenance for him from where he expects not.” [Abu Dawud].
Hifdh is a type of rizq
Our daily rizq comes in all forms and sizes and Hifdh is also a type of rizq. Use Istighfaar to increase your rizq of Hifdh by constantly saying أَسْتَغْفِرُ الله as much as you can, especially before you memorise.
The power of Du’aa
Du’aa has the power to change qadr (destiny). Aisha (RA) narrated that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
لا يُغني حذرٌ من قدرٍ والدُّعاءُ ينفعُ ممَّا نزل وما لم ينزِلْ وإنَّ البلاءَ لينزِلُ فيلقاه الدُّعاءُ فيعتلِجان إلى يومِ القيامةِ
Indeed caution cannot save you from what is destined, but what can save you from it is Du’aa, it benefits in the case of what has already descended (of difficulties) and what hasn’t descended yet. Surely difficulties descend and Du’aa goes up and meets them, and the two struggle against each other (whichever is stronger will overcome the other). This (power of Du’aa) will continue until the Day of Judgement. [al-Mundhiri in al-Targheeb wa al-Tarheeb]
